I've been interested in photography for a very long time. I purchased my first SLR when I was 18 years old. I did not really know how to work it properly, but it was "cool" because it had a telephoto lense. Well, I finally got tired of bad pictures, you know the kind, .... "well, you just had to be there, this pic just doesn't do it justice". I decided it was time to really understand photography and how to work my camera. I took a beginner's class at MATC, bought a new camera when mine died during a trip to San Antonio, and have really been enjoying myself since. My main goal was "to take pretty vacation photos". Yes, yes, I know that is a bit simple, maybe I should aspire to something more with my photography, but I am quite content with beautiful vacation pics.

Having only dabbled in photograph off and on through my life, I decided to try a digital camera several years ago. The combination of digital technology and photography was an addiction that proved to be too much to resist. Everyday I search for that great shot, oozing with potential that just needs a focus and maybe a tweak.  My interests vary with the hour as I have yet to settle in on one aspect of photography, which is just fine with me. Something about the journey and not the destination comes to mind here. My present equipment consists of a box housing a lens, a sensor and a shutter.

I am a photographer originally from Wisconsin. My photographs are subjects caught at specific moments in time and transformed into works of art. Many emotional qualities are intertwined within my work.

I have been featured in the Ozaukee News Graphic regarding my work. Throughout the last ten years I have been feeding my need to create stunning, emotionfilled photographs. In 2007, I may start selling my photographs at art fairs. On occasion my work is featured at local coffee shops.

I like the opportunity to photograph many different arrays of subjects. My work include landscapes, nature, macro photography of natural and manmade objects, portraits and anything else that catches my eye. I enjoy photography so much that most often I lose track of time while doing it.

With the exception of a few years in Arizona….the Milwaukee area has been home. Being in the Travel Industry, forever, and opening my own agency (Travel Visions - 46th & Forest Home in Milwaukee www.travelvisions.biz) in the mid 80’s has afforded me opportunities to travel the world and not only shoot the world but to meet incredibly interesting people, many becoming long time friends.  I use Nikon equipment….and have become part of the digital generation. Normally I am behind the lens of a D70 and dreaming of the Nikon DX2, hoping that is becomes affordable. Occasionally I do pull out my F100 to shoot slides. Photo subjects of interest to me are Wildlife, Nature, Sports & Special Events, which includes traveling abroad with K C Williams (country music entertainer/song writer) and his band …2 or 3 times a year. www.KCWilliams.com  I also organize special photo tours to Alaska to shoot the Brown Bears of Katmai and the Black Bear at Anan Bay and my favorite…to Churchill MB for the Ice Bears of the Arctic www.PolarBearAdventures.com

I have always been into imaging in some way from a brownie camera as a kid to video work as an adult. My background and college have been in both computers and art so in some ways I feel that my experience comes together well for this whole left-brained, right-brained thing called photography...and especially digital photography. It was a few years ago that I decided to go back and learn photography from the ground up and pursue it seriously. Since then I have shot many things but my specialties are sports and action, which is fun, and people, which is a passion.

This past Summer I travelled to New York for two workshops with National Geographic photographer Steve McCurry in his studio. They were fabulous...and enlightening. The way he sees light is amazing. I really think that I do see light and colors differently than I did before. The amount of information that I absorbed was indescribable. My challenge now is to put it to some use in my own photography.

I like to take photos of people. I used to hate photos of people...line everybody up and put on a fake smile. I want to find interesting people and show their personality and soul in a photo. If someday someone who sees the world as 'us and them' looks at one of my photos of someone much different than themselves and sees another person, a real person with hopes and dreams like their own, then I have accomplished my goal.

It's been said; " A picture is worth a thousand words" and I always hated writing. I tried art, but on a good day a was lucky if I could draw flies.(LOL) so the natural progression was to Photography.  It has been my creative outlet for most of my life.

Basically self taught, I have managed to have some photos published locally, some displayed at the MAM and done several shoots of children with Santa on a Harley Davidson for the local Harley dealer, whose H.O.G. chapter I  served as photographer for 12 years.

Although I prefer to shoot and process black & white, I have recently moved up to digital with a Nikon D70s. My biggest problem is trying to overcome the "monkey with a Camera syndrome" and transfer knowledge gained from shooting film to digital media.
